Bears head to College Station to face the Aggies
WACO, Texas – No. 7 Baylor equestrian (0-0) is set to open its 2023-24 season further down the Brazos at No. 4 Texas A&M (0-0) this week.
The Bears will face off against the Aggies on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Hildebrand Equine Complex in College Station, Texas.
Seventh-year head coach Casie Maxwell leads a squad of 61 student-athletes, including All-American Madison Mitchell (Flat) and NCEA Co-Rider of the Year Dominika Silvestri (Flat). Additionally, BU returns 13 of its 19 point-winners from last season.
Baylor is back in action after a fifth-consecutive trip to the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) quarterfinals under Maxwell.
After a 6-10 campaign and a third-place finish at the 2023 Big 12 Championship, the Bears were ranked seventh in the NCEA preseason dual discipline poll and remained seventh following the first week of this season.
BU is 3-3 in season openers during the Maxwell era and will open the year on the road for the fifth-consecutive season. Baylor has outscored opponents 67-44 in its last five season-opening competitions.
A&M leads the all-time series 17-8 over BU, with the Bears looking for their first win over the Aggies since 2021. A win would mark just the second in eight attempts for Maxwell over her alma mater. Live scoring will be provided by A&M and is available here.
Following this week's season opener, BU will return to Waco on Oct. 6 to open the home slate against No. 2 Auburn.
