Bears face Cyclones again Sunday at 2pm
AMES, Iowa โย The 18th ranked Baylor volleyball squad fell in five sets against Iowa State in the first of back-to-back matches at Hilton Coliseum, 3-2.

The Bears (6-6, 0-2) couldn't capitalize against the Cyclones (12-2, 3-0), falling 17-25, 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 8-15.

THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
BU started off hot with four-straight points, which included an overpass kill from Kyndal Stowers, returning after missing a match, and a Lauren Briseño ace. The Cyclones then went on a run of their own, tying it at five-all. Swapping points mostly thanks to errors, the teams kept it tied all the way to 10-10 with the third ISU ace and a kill from Stowers. Six-straight errors from both teams put Iowa State ahead 14-12.An incredible save and rally by the Bears got them the point in the end thanks to an attack error, ISU now up 18-15. Down the stretch, the Cyclones had an answer at every turn. Elise McGhee had a kill at 23-16 but it was too far gone, and despite staving off set point, ISU took the set, 25-17.

The first play of the set was a monster block from the "Allies", Allie Sczech & Alicia Andrew. The Cyclones returned with a kill and a block assist, but McGhee had a kill to even it back at 2-2. Stowers got a kill at 4-3, ISU up, but Cyclone Maya Duckworth had back-to-back kills. After a service error and another Duckworth kill, the Bears started a run. Manuela Bibinbe showed her offensive prowess with an impressive kill, followed by one from Stowers. A block from the "Allies" and a kill from McGhee made it a 4-0 stretch. Following another McGhee kill off an ISU block error, Baylor had back-to-back blocks, the first from the Allies and the second from Stowers and Andrew after the media timeout, put BU up 16-11. Stowers made it another four-point run with a kill. Andrew and Bibinbe had kills one after another to bring BU to 19-12. The 'Clones had two errors and a kill but Bibinbe made it 22-14. Three-straight BU errors from the Bears was followed by an ace from ISU, now 22-18. McGhee made it set point by tooling the block, and Sczech finished off the set at 25-19 with a kill.

Duckworth started the set for ISU with a kill but then the Cyclones had two errors and blocked a BU ball to make it 2-2. Bibinbe had a massive kill to make it 3-2. Two points came for ISU before Bibinbe would have another kill, 4-4. Stowers served up an ace that was called out, but the call was overturned and Baylor went up 5-4. McGhee got two kills down the stretch to make it 7-6, then made it 8-7. An attack error on Iowa State tied it at 9-9, then a Bibinbe kill tied it at 10-all. The programs kept swapping points to keep it tied, but that ended at 13-all. An attack error on ISU was followed by a block from McGhee and Andrew to go into media timeout. Out of it, the Cyclones had back-to-back errors and called timeout, BU on a 4-0 run and up 17-13. Iowa State got a kill but Sczech responded. She put the Bears up 19-15 with another kill and Briseño had her second ace of the afternoon to make the score 20-15, the Cyclones calling for another timeout. Stowers had her ninth kill of the match and Briseño served up her third ace, now 22-15. To end the set, Bibinbe teamed up with Stowers for a block, there was an ISU error and Bibinbe had a fireball of a kill to end it, 25-15.

The Bears once again started the set off hot with a 4-0 run capitalized by an ace from Carlson, the Bears' sixth of the match. ISU called timeout and got a kill out of it, but BU responded with McGhee getting a quick kill, tooling the block, now 5-1. Stowers made it 6-2, Sandwiched by kills from Iowa State. Sczech had a kill at 7-4, then Bibinbe at 8-5. Andrew got a kill to make it 10-6, followed by Stowers at 11-7. Just errors plagued the teams from 12-7 to 13-10, but Sczech had a kill in her and helped BU stay ahead, 14-10. Stowers had the point at 15-11, but ISU kills and back-to-back service errors, then a Cyclone block, ISU tied it up at 17-all. Sczech tied it again at 19-19, and Stowers put the Bears up by one, 20-19. Sczech again tied it at 21-all, but Nayeli Gonzalez went on a tear for the Cyclones and had three-straight kils before an ace ended the set, 25-22.

Gonzalez kept hot for ISU in the fifth set, getting three of the Cyclones' first four points, going 4-0. Sczech got a kill to stop their run, 4-1. A block from Sczech and Victoria Davis made it 4-2, but again ISU got two points from Gonzalez and a block. Stowers made it 6-3, but ISU followed with a kill. Iowa State had a service error and then a kill before Bibinbe got the kill to make it 8-5. Back-to-back BU errors had the Cyclones go up by five points. McGhee tried to keep the set alive for the Bears with a kill, but ISU responded, now 11-6. Stowers again struck, then Sczech, with an ISU kill in between, 12-8. Another Gonzalez kill and an ace from the Cyclones brought it to match point. Iowa State shut the door at 15-8 with an attack error from the Bears.ย
