All-conference senior recognized as top-10 point guard in the country
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Baylor women's basketball's Sarah Andrews has been selected as a top 10 candidate for the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Monday.
Now in its 25th year, the award recognizes the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. To be considered for this prestigious award, candidates must exhibit the floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling skills of Class of 1996 Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lieberman.
Andrews, who earned a spot on three preseason watch lists, including the Nancy Lieberman Award, has started all 18 games for the Bears this season. The senior guard eclipsed 1,000-career points in the season opener and ranks second all-time in BU women's basketball history with 209 made 3-pointers. She was named the ESPN National Player of the Week on Dec. 18 and earned West Palm Beach Classic MVP honors a week later. Andrews turned in her second-career double-double in Baylor's win over UCF on Jan. 20 with an 11-point, 10-assist performance, becoming the first Bear to record a point-assist double-double since Nov. 25, 2022.
The Irving, Texas, native has reached double-figure scoring 13 times this season and is averaging 12.2 points per game. Andrews has connected on a team-best 45 from behind the 3-point arc and she ranks second on the team with 65 assists. Additionally, Andrews is shooting a team-high 81.8% from the free throw line.
