THE RUNDOWN
PROVO, Utah – Baylor soccer recorded a draw against BYU, 3-1, Thursday night at South Field.
Baylor came out hot in the first half with Alysiah Lockette firing off the first shot in the 2nd minute, but the shot sailed just wide of the post. Lockette took another chance less than a minute later but again couldn't put the ball into the back of the net.
BYU put its first shot on frame in the 8th minute, but Azul Alvarez made the save in goal, her first of the half.
Baylor took a corner kick in the 20th minute and Ashley Merrill and Lockette had back-to-back shots blocked before BYU took the first half advantage.
In the 22nd minute, BYU's Erin Bailey found the back of the net for the first goal of the match and to put the Cougars up 1-0.
By the end of the first half, Alvarez had made eight saves, one shy of a career-high just 45 minutes in.
To get things started in the second half, Tyler Isgrig took a shot in the 46th minute before Hannah Augustyn put the Bears' first shot on frame in the 48th minute.
After a BU corner kick in the 48th minute, Skye Leach had a shot blocked before Isgrig netted her sixth goal of the season in the 49th minute to square the game, 1-1.
It was all BU after that, as Baylor scored two more goals within three minutes to take the 3-1 lead. Hallie Augustyn scored the Bears' second goal in the 64th minute when she got her own rebound to find the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. In the 66th minute, Isgrig found the foot of Merrill who netted her fifth goal of the season to but the Bears up by two goals.
Not letting Baylor get away with a win in Provo, BYU came back and scored two goals in under a minute to tie the game. The Cougars' Allie Fryer found a goal in the 85th minute, before a handball called in the box led to a BYU penalty kick with tied the game, 3-3.
Isgrig got off the Bears' last shot of the match in the 87th minute but it sailed just high of the crossbar and the game ended in a draw.
