AMES, Iowa – Baylor soccer recorded a draw against Iowa State, 1-1, Friday night at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
The Bears fell behind early against the Cyclones, after a Baylor corner kick in the 2
nd minute, Iowa State netted a goal in the 5
th minute to take the early 1-0 lead.
Tyler Isgrig forced the first save by the ISU goalkeeper in the 12
th minute and
Hannah Augustyn challenged her again in the 22
nd minute, but Baylor wasn't able to find the back of the net.
As
Azul Alvarez was forced to make two saves in the first half, BU peppered off seven shots in the first 45, with Isgrig taking five of those shots.
To get things started in the second half, Baylor was awarded a corner in the 48
th minute which led to shots by
Callie Conrad and
Natalie Vatter, but Baylor just wasn't able to find the equalizer.
Alvarez made back-to-back saves in the 58
th and 59
th minutes before BU fired back and forced ISU into two more saves.
In the 73
rd minute Isgrig got off the Bears' best look of the match, but her shot went off the top crossbar instead of finding the back of the net.
It was the boot of
Skye Leach that was the difference maker, as the junior scored the equalizer in the 85
th minute to tie the game, 1-1 and give the Bears the draw against the Cyclones.
