FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor women's tennis takes the road again to TCU for the Jae Foundation Fall Open at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, held Thursday through Sunday.
Na Dong, Sierra Berry, Wenfei Yu and Kennedy Gibbs will be headed to the tournament to compete against other athletes from BYU, Notre Dame, Arizona, Illinois, Maryland, Rice, Texas A&M, Northwestern, Wisconsin, SMU, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Kansas and LSU.
The weekend begins at 4 p.m. on Thursday with two doubles matches against Illionois and will be followed by singles against BYU or Arizona.
After two weeks off for training, the Bears return to action following the ITA Texas Regional Championship in Fort Worth that ran Oct. 10-15. Dong and Yu both won their first-round matchups of the main singles draw. Both were also able to take wins in the second round, with Yu constructing an upset over the third-seeded Jeanette Mireles from Texas A&M. Dong and Yu would both fall in the round of 16.
In doubles, the pairing of Berry and Yu lost their first match up in the main draw, however, they picked up two wins in the consolation draw before dropping in the semifinals to Tarleton's Xim Morales Araneda and Maria Castano.
Gibbs and her partner Cristina Tiglea were able to gain two victories, including a dominant 8-1 win against Houston's Gabriela Cortes and Heta Nuutinen. Gibbs and Tiglea would fall in the quarterfinals to Texas Tech's Andreea Lila and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko.
Admission to the Friedman Tennis Center is free in Fort Worth. Results and updated draws will be posted at the conclusion of each match on the tournament website.
