Kostenko, Tiglea fall to ranked USC duo in Round One
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis seniors Liubov Kostenko and Cristina Tiglea, seeded 5-8, fell to the 20th-ranked Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper from Southern California, 6-2, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.
THE RUNDOWN
In Set One, USC scored three straight games before the Bears made a dent in the set at 3-1. The Trojans allowed just one more game from the Bears off an ace before taking the first frame, 6-2. Set Two had the Bears up first until a break to put Fairclough and Piper up 3-2. The Bears held two more times with some fight before USC finished off the match with a 6-4 second set.
The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will continue through Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center until four new national champions are crowned. Tickets are still available, and the remainder of the tournament will continue on ESPN+.
