WACO, Texas – The 17th-ranked Baylor volleyball team beat UCF, 3-0, at the Ferrell Center on Saturday for BU's seventh win in a row.
The Bears (17-6, 9-3) took the Knights (8-13, 1-11) in three, BU winning set one at 25-22, set two, 25-16, and ended the final set for the win, 25-19.
Leading for the Bears were
Elise McGhee with 17 kills and a .552 hit percentage,
Lauren Briseño with 17 digs, and
Jackie Barrett Frazier with 34 assists.
THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
The Bears came out hot with
Kendal Murphy scoring the first point of the match with a kill.
Allie Sczech followed her teammate with another kill and Baylor didn't let up as
Elise McGhee hit her 1000th career kill, now 7-4. Murphy and McGhee celebrated by hitting their second kills of the set, while
Alicia Andrew got a solo block; the Bears up 10-5. Baylor challenged a UCF kill and won due to a net ball, and
Victoria Davis used this momentum to get a kill, her second, now 13-9. McGhee just couldn't be stopped as she hit another two kills, 16-11.
Lauren Briseño served her 81st career ace, making her No. 5 outright at Baylor for career rally-scoring service aces. With that ace, BU went up 21-16 on the Knights. McGhee wouldn't slow down as she hits two more kills to put the Bears at set point.
Jackie Barrett Frazier sealed the deal with a setter dump to close the set at 25-22.
Set 2
McGhee scored the first point for Baylor with a kill before adding two aces to her sheet, BU up 4-1. A great block by Sczech and Davis put the Bears at 7-3. The dynamic duo kept pushing and each scored a kill for the Bears. Andrew was ready to go as she hit a kill and then had another solo block, now up 13-10. McGhee and Sczech each recorded kills, bringing the score to 15-11, Bears. Davis, Murphy and McGhee all got kills to move Baylor to 21-14. Davis and McGhee continued working together as they blocked the Knights, 22-14. For the set point, a kill by McGhee finalized another Baylor set win, 25-16.
Set 3
Going into set three, Baylor took the first point by way of yet another McGhee kill. Andrew drove home a kill to propel Baylor further, up 4-2. Murphy had a solo block on the next play, holding UCF back. Davis got two kills, bringing the score to 8-6, Bears.
Sophia Keene and
Ava Grace Haggard entered the match and each recorded their first two kills.
Manuela Bibinbe and Keene made a great block, moving the Bears to be up 22-18.
Jackie Barrett Frazier used a kill to keep the scoreboard moving in BU's favor. Match point was won with a kill by Keene at 25-19, securing the 3-0 match win.
HIGHLIGHTS
