Bears named fourth seed in lower right regional
WACO, Texas – The Baylor volleyball team was chosen as the No. 4 seed for the Lower Right Regional, 15th overall, in the 2024 NCAA Volleyball Championship.
The team gathered at head coach Ryan McGuyre's home for dinner, worship and fellowship, and to watch the bracket be unveiled.
This is the ninth-straight appearance for the Bears in the big dance, all under McGuyre, and 13th overall. It is also the fifth time in eight years that BU is hosting the First and Second Rounds in Waco.
BU (22-7, 14-4) will host (5) Dayton, South Carolina and Wofford in Waco at the Ferrell Center for the first and second rounds. The Bears will face Wofford on Thursday at 7 p.m. South Carolina and Dayton will play first at 4:30 p.m.
Baylor is 13-8 in the NCAA tournament under McGuyre and 16-12 overall going into the first and second rounds. BU is also 9-1 when playing on their home court in the tournament.
The Bears made it to the national semifinal in 2019 and the regional semifinal in three of the last four seasons.
The other four teams in Baylor's portion of the bottom-left, lower quadrant include national seeds (1) Nebraska and (8) Miami (FL), as well as South Dakota State and Florida A&M.
Thirty-two teams receive automatic qualification, with the remaining 32 teams selected as at-large by the Division I Women's Volleyball Committee. The tournament consists of four regions with 16 teams in each region. Regional play will be hosted by the top-16 seeds in the tournament. The winners of both the first and second rounds will move on to the regionals portion of the tournament.
The Bears are one of six teams representing the Big 12 in this season's tournament. Also playing in postseason are Arizona State, BYU, Kansas, TCU and Utah. Four institutions are hosting on their campuses – BU, ASU, KU and Utah.
