Bears keep win streak going, lengthen to 29
WACO, Texas – Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, 279.870 to 272.465, at the Ferrell Center.
The Bears (2-0) defeated the Crusaders (0-1) by 7.405 points for the win. BU continued their win streak, lengthening it to 29 meets dating back to 2021.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 38.70, an improvement from the first week of competition. A score of 9.65 was garnered in Acro, 9.90 in Pyramid, 9.70 in Toss and an 9.45 in Tumbling. The Bears bested previous meet highs in two heats and tied one. Going into the second event, BU was up 38.27 to UMHB's 37.25 score.
Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor upped all three heat scores from the previous week. BU had a score of 9.95 in Heat 1, 9.60 in Heat 2 and 9.55 in Heat 3 of Acro to total 29.10 for the event. In heat three, Jordan Gruendler and Bayley Humphrey compete the "boomerang", where Gruendler does a back tuck out of Humphrey's hands and back into them. She then competes an arch into the one-arm arch. The Cru had scores of 9.55, 9.35 and 9.45, respectively, for a total of 28.35. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 67.80 to UMHB's 65.60.
In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 9.85 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, BU earned a 9.85, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the open heat, the Bears scored 9.90. With the event scoring a 29.60, the running total was updated to 97.40 for Baylor. UMHB totaled 29.05 for the event and had a score of 94.65 going into halftime, the Bears up 2.75-points on the Crusaders.
In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.55, 9.45 and 9.45, respectively, to total 28.45 for the event. The Cru scored a 9.30, 8.75 and 8.95 respectively, to total 27.00. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 125.850 to UMHB's 121.650.
In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with freshman Emily Bott and senior Kristen McCain scored a 9.50. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Rakel Jeffries, Aliyah Kaloostian and Ally Joswick scored a 9.00. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Aliya Thomas, Dailyn Hopkins, Nova Schmit and Emi Nelson score a 9.05. The Aerial pass from Bott earned a 9.90, Jeffries in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.75, and McCain in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.90. The Bears' total came to 57.10 for the event, while the Crusaders scored a 53.325. Going into the night's final event, BU was up 182.950 to 174.975 from UMHB.
In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 96.92 while UMHB earned a 97.49, bringing the meet score to a total of 279.970 to 272.465, BU taking the win.
