LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 13 Baylor Softball fell in its series opener against Kansas, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor held Kansas scoreless through three innings while only allowing one hit, a double, in the top of the second before KU got on the board for the first time.
Sydney Collazos was the Bears only baserunner through the first four innings, as she drew a five-pitch walk in the top of the second.
The Jayhawks plated their first run in the bottom of the fourth after a leadoff single and a fielding error put two on. KU's next batter then reached on a fielder's choice to plate the runner from third and give Kansas the 1-0 lead.
The Bears were able to capitalize in the top of the fifth after Abi Flores reached on an error and pinch-runner Caroline Rowatt moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and groundout. Kaci West then singled up the middle to plate the Bears' first run, before another single from Shannon Vivoda put two on with two-out. Shortstop Presleigh Pilon came to bat and singled in the Bears' second run of the inning to give Baylor the 2-1 lead in the fifth.
After sitting the Jayhawks down in order in the bottom half of the fifth, Shaylon Govan walked in the sixth but that would be all for the Bears at the plate in the game.
Kansas took the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth after a two-run home run that secured the Jayhawks win over the Bears.
