Long Wins Discus Silver in T&F’s First Day of TCU Alumni Invite

FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor track and field opened its outdoor season with the shortened first day of the TCU Alumni Invitational on Friday at AP Ranch with the throws events.

Starting the day with the discus throw, Makayla Long secured the silver medal behind Oklahoma's Paige Low with a 162-6 fling. With just one legal preliminary throw on her second attempt, the junior found the No. 2 position and held through the final three attempts, improving to her best throw of the day at just over 49 ½ meters on the fifth throw.

In what was supposed to follow the discus, the hammer throw was canceled due to inclement weather in the area. Long and Victoria Adu were entered to compete for the Bears.

The Bears complete the TCU Alumni Invitational on Saturday morning at the Lowden Track and Field Complex in Fort Worth. With weather in the forecast, the running events will start at 8 a.m. and are on a rolling schedule, and the first field event will kick off at 9:30 a.m.
