Kubacha earned a pair of tiebreak wins to help the Bears remain undefeated in league play
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Baylor women's tennis team (13-5, 5-0 Big 12) used a gutsy singles performance from freshman Zuzanna Kubacha to overcome the Kansas State Wildcats (7-6, 1-4 Big 12), 4-3, on Friday evening.
In doubles, a 6-1 win on court one by the Wildcats gave them the early edge before Liubov Kostenko and Isabella Harvison quickly responded with a 6-1 victory on court three to level the playing field. Miska Kadleckova and Danielle Tuhten collected their ninth doubles win, and moved to 4-0 as partners in conference play, with a 6-2 decision on court two to give BU the first point of the match.
Kansas State responded in singles, jumping on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court six. Baylor regained its lead and extended it with a pair of straight set wins by Kadleckova and Harvison at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively.
The Wildcats bounced back from their deficit to knot the score at three-all with wins on court three and court five.
It all came down to court four, as Kubacha edged Manami Ukita in extra tiebreak points, 7-6(6), in the opening set before turning in the same score in the second set to win it for the Bears and keep Baylor undefeated in league play.
Baylor returns to action on Sunday when it travels to face top-ranked Oklahoma State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. and fans can watch the match via Cracked Racquets/ESPN+.
