Van Gytenbeek and Walker are earning their first-career academic honors
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's basketball's Jana Van Gytenbeek and Jada Walker were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team on Tuesday, as announced by College Sports Communicators.
The organization recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Van Gytenbeek and Walker are each earning their first-career academic honors for their performances in the classroom as corporate communication majors.
Van Gytenbeek has finished in double figures more times in the last 11 games than she did in her first 46 games as a Bear. The senior guard has drained two-or-more 3-pointers in seven in the last eight contests heading into the Sweet 16. Walker, who is averaging just over eight points per game, guided the Bears to a 75-72 win over Virginia Tech in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a career-high 28 points. She scored 14 of those in the fourth quarter to guide Baylor to its first Sweet 16 appearance in the Nicki Collen era and 16th in program history.
