SAN MARCOS, Texas – No. 21 Baylor Softball fell against No. 23 Texas State, 6-1, Wednesday night at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor threatened early in the game, as Emily Hott drew a leadoff walk and Presleigh Pilon singled to put two on. Aliyah Binford then drew a two-out walk to load the bases, but a strikeout would stop the threat.
Texas State capitalized on three hits and a walk in the bottom half of the first to plate three runs and give the Bobcats the advantage.
Sydney Collazos and Shaylon Govan each reached on errors in the following two innings, but that would be the only two baserunners for the Bears until the sixth inning.
Pitcher Aliyah Binford and the Baylor defense were able to keep the Bobcats off the board for the next four innings.
Baylor loaded the bases again in the top of the sixth, when Govan walked, Abi Flores reached on an error and Taylor Strain singled, but the Bears weren't able to capitalize.
Texas State added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth after a bases-loaded single plated two more runs and gave the Bobcats the 5-0 lead. They plated their sixth run on a wild pitch before a groundout ended the sixth.
Down to the last chance in the seventh, Baylor's Ana Watson reached after a dropped third strike before Pilon singled to right field. Govan tried to get the one-out rally going with an RBI single in the seventh, but that would be the only run for the Bears as they fell, 6-1.
