Bears earn eighth win of season in Eugene against Ducks
EUGENE, Ore. – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated No. 4 Oregon on Friday at Matthew Knight Arena, 274.915 to 266.595, to finish the regular season slate.
The Bears (8-0) beat the Ducks (2-3) by 8.32 points for the win. The all-time series for BU improves to 24-13 and 8-6 in Eugene.
The Bears increase their winning streak to 35 meets, dating back to March 27, 2021.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 38.30. A score of 9.55 was garnered in Acro, 9.85 in Pyramid, 9.90 in Toss and a 9.0 in Tumbling. The 9.90 in Toss tied the Bears' season high for the heat. Headed into the second event, BU was up 1.2 points to Oregon's 37.20 score.
Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.90 in Heat 1 (5-Element), 9.60 in Heat 2 (6-Element) and 9.70 in Heat 3 (7-Element) of Acro to total 29.20 for the event. The Ducks had scores of 9.70, 9.50 and 9.80 respectively, for a total of 28.55. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 67.50 to Oregon's 65.75. The Bears had previously not dropped heat three to an opponent since Gannon in 2020.
In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 9.95 in Heat 1, the inversion heat, to tie their season high. In heat two, BU earned a 9.90, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the open heat, the Bears scored 9.90. With the event scoring a 29.75, the running total was updated to 97.25 for Baylor. Oregon totaled 29.55 for the event and had a score of 95.30going into halftime, the Bears up by 1.95 points.
In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.70, 9.55 and 9.60, respectively, to total 28.85 for the event. The Ducks scored a 9.60, 9.45 and 9.70, respectively, to total 28.75. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 126.100 to Oregon's 124.050.
In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with Emily Bott (FR) and Kristen McCain (SR) scored a 9.30. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Mariah Polk, Dailyn Hopkins and Charlyze Hemby scored an 8.65/9.40, compared to Oregon's 9.05/10. The last time the Bears dropped the duo heat was against Oregon on the road in 2021. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Payton Washington, Aliyah Kaloostian, Alyiah Thomas and Rakel Jeffries score an 8.65. The Aerial pass from Bott earned a 9.80, Washington in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.800 score, and Savanna Cecil in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned an 8.800 while UO had a 9.800. The Bears' total came to 55.075 for the event, while the Ducks scored a 55.875. Going into the night's final event, BU was up 181.175 to 179.925 from Oregon.
In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 93.74 while the Ducks earned a 86.67, bringing the meet score to a total 274.915 to 266.595, BU taking the win.
