NORMAN, Okla. – No. 31 Baylor men's tennis fell to 11th-ranked Oklahoma, 4-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday evening.
The Bears (18-8 (2-3 Big 12)) ended their three-match winning streak to the Sooners (18-2 (4-0 Big 12)) who remain unblemished in Big 12 play and at home. OU secured the doubles point with back-to-back wins at Nos. 2 and 3 while taking singles matchups at Courts Two, Three and Four.
THE RUNDOWN
As 29th-ranked Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz battled against 68th-ranked Baptiste Anselmo and Alex Martinez at the first doubles court in a match that ended with a tie at 5-all, OU snuck in two doubles wins at the bottom two courts.
Hank Trondson and Asahi Harazaki took the first win of the day at No. 3 doubles, defeating Christopher Frantzen and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen, 6-3. Meanwhile at Court Two, Kholo Montsi and Luis Alvarez had a surge against Devin Badenhorst and Luc Koenig to clinch the doubles point in 6-4 fashion.
Starting singles, the Sooners had four first sets, while No. 68 Paroulek and Brostrom Poulsen secured their individual first frames for Baylor.
Montsi, OU's second-court player, was the first to finish in singles with a 6-2, 6-4, win over No. 88 Velcz. Moments after, Court Four was finalized in favor of Oklahoma, as Alvarez beat Koenig, 6-4, 6-1.
Jordan Hasson tabbed the final win of the night in Norman to clinch the match, winning over No. 99 Badenhorst in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-4.
Three courts were abandoned and unfinished, as freshman Louis Bowden was tied at 5-5 in his second set after dropping the first, 6-4. Paroulek and Brostrom Poulsen both split their first two sets and were locked into third sets at the conclusion of play.
