Brown becomes the only jumper in program history to pass 22 feet
WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field had another weather delay-filled day on Friday in the second day of the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.
Entering the meet with the second-best marks in the conference in 2024, Alexis Brown leaped out to a Big 12 Championship-winning performance, setting new facility and program records with a personal-best mark of 22-5 to highlight the day for BU.
THE RUNDOWN
Down to the final jump on her home track in the 2024 season, Brown finally crossed the 22-foot mark on early Saturday morning to win the Big 12 Conference long jump championship at 22-5. The senior, who was competing in her first-career outdoor conference championship, set new program and facility records en route to hitting the third-best mark in NCAA DI competition this season.
Scoring his first points in the Big 12 as part of his first-ever Big 12 Championship, Trpimir Siroki led the field through flight one and hit 24-2 ½ in the men's long jump for seventh place in the event. The first-semester transfer from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Angelo State entered the meet with a season-best mark of 24-7.
Hayden Gold held Baylor's lone running event of the day in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, where she finished in 11 minutes flat for 15th place.
With a day-best throw of 49-5, Makayla Long took 12th in the women's shot put.

Day Three of the meet continues on Saturday morning, with the rained-out women's pole vault at 11 a.m. Action on the track begins with the 4x100 at 4 p.m.
