Bear duo finds spot on all-conference doubles team for second-straight season
IRVING, Texas – Baylor men's tennis earned two entries on the All-Big 12 Teams and one doubles court co-championship, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
The Bears' primary No. 1 doubles pairing of Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz landed on the All-Big 12 second team and Paroulek split off for another second-team appearance in singles.
Ending in a five-way tie, Paroulek and Velcz also finished as co-champions at the No. 1 doubles spot in conference play. With three wins at the top court, the two ended conference play knotted with BYU's Zach Fuchs and Wally Thayne, Oklahoma's Baptiste Anselmo and Alex Martinez, Oklahoma State's Isaac Becroft and Tyler Zink and Texas' Eliot Spizzirri and Siem Woldeab.
The 38th-ranked duo in the country, Paroulek and Velcz, have an overall mark of 13-11 and went 3-3 in conference play. The pair was as high as No. 3 in the preseason fall poll and defeated No. 1 DK Suresh Ekambaram and Holden Koons of Wake Forest as part of four wins over ranked opponents.
In singles, Paroulek put a 12-10 overall record in the books this season while going 7-8 in spring dual-match play. The senior from Prague, Czech Republic, took down six ranked opponents, the highest of which was No. 14 Pedro Vives from TCU in three sets.
The awards mark Paroulek's third singles and second doubles postseason career honors. Velcz joins in to receive his second mention in the All-Big 12 doubles teams.
Baylor begins the NCAA Championship tournament with their 26th-straight bid on Friday morning at 10 in College Station against No. 18 San Diego. The match will be streamed at 12thman.com and live stats will be available online.
