THE RUNDOWN
Haywood's first collegiate trip to Hayward Field comes with a top-12 finish in the women's pole vault. The freshman remained perfect on the day, being only one of three athletes across the two pits to do so, clearing the top bar of 14-1 ¼. Sophomore Tenly Kuhn cleared three bars at 13-5 ¼ and was just two jumps away from an NCAA berth.
The Big 12 Women's Performer of the Year punched her ticket to nationals on the first jump, leaping to 21-10 for sixth in the event. Brown's mark gave her the first of three possible tickets to the big dance in Oregon. With a tight competition in the star-studded west preliminary field, Florida's Claire Bryant, the winner of the east region, would have finished 12th in Fayetteville.
There were two Bears that took qualifying marks into the quarterfinals of the 100-meter dash. Brown and Kayla Hunt both put up wind-aided PRs, with Brown in at 11.14 and Hunt in at 11.21. The advancing duo finished ahead of Michaela Francois, who took 43rd across the six heats.
