Pair of four-run frames powers Bears to midweek victory over Texans
The Bears (21-26) racked up 11 runs on 10 hits with a pair of players posting multi-hit nights in junior outfielder Ty Johnson, who hit his second-career home run, and junior infielder Hunter Teplanszky, who became the third Bear this season to reach base safely in eight-straight plate appearances.
Seven BU pitchers combined to hold Tarleton (25-24) to four scattered runs. Four Baylor relievers worked scoreless outings, including freshman southpaw Mason Green, who collected his second win of the year and senior right-hander Grant Golomb, who picked up his second-career save.
THE RUNDOWN
The Bears got things started in the first with a two-out, two-run double by Teplanszky, but quickly found themselves in a tie ballgame after the Texans plated a pair in the top of the second. Redshirt junior outfielder Enzo Apodaca made a leaping catch and crashed into the right-field wall, but a pair of baserunners tagged up, resulting in a sacrifice fly. One batter later, another sacrifice fly knotted the scoreline.
BU responded and put up four runs in the home half on two hits and three walks to take back the lead, as eight batters came to the plate. Fifth-year senior infielder Cole Posey singled in two and later scored on a wild pitch, sandwiched in between a sac fly from senior infielder Daniel Altman.
Teplanszky scampered home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Baylor lead to 7-2. Tarleton got a few back in the sixth and seventh thanks to RBI singles in each inning and cut the Bears' lead to 7-4.
But in the bottom of the eighth, Baylor would pull away as the Bears batted around and put another four runs on the board behind Johnson's solo home run, a two-run triple by redshirt junior outfielder Kade Fletcher, and an RBI single by junior catcher Cortlan Castle.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On the importance of tonight's win…
"It's just good to get back on the winning side. It's good to get back out there on the mound, to have guys for the most part throw the ball pretty well. We got [Brayden] Buchanan and RJ [Ruais] at-bats and opportunities again, rested Cort [Castle] pretty much today, so it was a good win. I thought the guys played well. We were aggressive on the bases. We jumped out on them early and it was a good ballgame for us."
Junior Infielder Hunter Teplanszky
On taking momentum into the weekend…
"You never know when the page is going to turn, so getting a win like this gives us all the confidence in the world going into the weekend. There's a lot of guys who had good days. Having days like that, you never know when those help turn the page and get you rolling again."
On the offensive approach…
"The kind of offense we play is stringing good AB's together and moving guys. We hit the long ball tonight with Ty [Johnson], but we don't hit many of them so we just have to string together a bunch of good AB's, keep doing that and force the issue on offense and score runs."
