BOULDER, Colo. – Baylor soccer recorded a draw against No. 16 Colorado, 1-1, Thursday night at Prentup Field in Boulder, Colo.
After testing goalkeeper Azul Alvarez 16 seconds into the match, Ashley Merrill put the next shot on goal in the 11thminute to give Baylor its first chance.
The Bears tested Colorado eight more times over the next 21 minutes, including back-to-back shots from Tyler Isgrig and Merrill in the 32nd minute but BU couldn't find the back of the net.
Colorado struck first, as the Buffs netted a goal in the 42nd minute to go up 1-0.
Starting the second half, Isgrig took the first shot in the 46th minute but the shot was clocked by a CU defender. It was all Baylor to start the second half as the Bears got off three more shots and took a corner kick before Colorado got a shot off.
Baylor scored the equalizer in the 61st minute, when Skye Leach made a run and crossed it to Alysiah Lockette, but the ball was intercepted by the CU goalkeeper who deflected it into another Colorado defender for an own goal.
The Bears were tested again with a trio of shots in the 80th minute but two saved shots and a blocked shot kept the Buffs from taking the lead.
Holding off the Colorado offense, BU made a team save when Ava Colberg headed the ball out of the box with time expiring in the second half to end the game with a 1-1 tie.
HIGHLIGHTS
Up next, the Bears will return home to host TCU on Sunday, Sept. 29.
