Bears face Jackrabbits in covered arena Saturday
WACO, Texas – The 10th-ranked Baylor equestrian team opens its spring season on Saturday, hosting South Dakota State at 10:30 a.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
Due to heavy rain early in the week, the meet will take place exclusively in the covered arena. The meet will start with Fences, then both Flat and Horsemanship will compete simultaneously before Reining brings up the rear to finish off the competition.
The Bears (1-4, 1-2 Big 12) face the Jackrabbits (2-5, 2-3 ECAC) for the first and only time this season on Saturday, with it being SDSU's third meet in as many days throughout Texas. As of this release's posting, the Jackrabbits were getting underway in Dallas facing No. 7 SMU.
Baylor is offering a foam cowboy hat giveaway to fans, as well as horse trading card sets.
Last time out, BU put up a fight against No. 2 Texas A&M, but came up short, falling 12-6. In Flat, Lauren Reid earned her point for the Bears, while Madison Mitchell got the Bears on the board in Fences. On the Western side, Riley Cachat and Isabella Hehr scored in Reining, while Taylor Smith and Anna Thron each scored points in Horsemanship.
Through five meets on the season, Madison Mitchell leads the squad with two MOPs in Flat, while Alexis Rutledge has one MOP in Horsemanship and Emily Moomaw has one in Reining.
Live results for Saturday's meet can be found here. A full recap and final scoresheet will be uploaded after the conclusion of the competition.
