Bears shut out first opponent of the 2025 season
WACO, Texas – No. 23 Baylor Softball shut out Hofstra, 7-0, Friday night at Getterman Stadium to open the Getterman Classic with a win.
THE RUNDOWN
Hofstra threatened the Bears in the top of the first innings, when they got two on with no one out but a play at the plate stopped a run from scoring and the Bears' defense worked out of the jam.
Baylor got ion base early in the bottom of the first, after a one-out bunt single from Turiya Coleman. After Shaylon Govan reached on a fielder's choice, BU started a two-out rally when Abi Flores walked and Karynton Dawson was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Presleigh Pilon. Pilon drove in one run with a single to right field before Amber Toven followed it up with a two-RBI single to put the Bears on top 3-0.
Starting pitcher Sadie Ross picked up two strikeouts in the second inning to keep the Pride off of the board, before sitting HU down in order in the third.
Baylor tacked on one run in the bottom of the third after an RBI groundout.
After retiring the Bears in order again in the fourth, Baylor's Coleman and Govan walked in the bottom of the inning but that would be all for the Bears until the bottom of the sixth.
Keeping the Pride scoreless, Baylor extended its lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Ashlyn Wachtendorf hit a lead off triple and Brooklyn carter laid down a bunt to put runners on the corners. After Carter stole second, Coleman ripped a shot at the shortstop to bring home both base runners. Flores was issued a walk before Dawson was intentionally walked to load the bases before a sacrifice fly from Pilon made it 7-0.
Reliever Lexie Warncke picked up two strikeouts in the top of the seventh to sit the Pride down in order for the fourth time in the game, to secure the Bears' win.

The Bears will face off against No. 3 Oklahoma and Hofstra in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m., to continue day two of the Getterman Classic.
