Bears grab their third Big 12 weekly award of the indoor season
IRVING, Texas – After a record-shattering weekend at the Jarvis Scott Open, senior Nathaniel Ezekiel was named Co-Big 12 Men's Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Earning his first indoor weekly conference award of his career, Ezekiel claimed Baylor track & field's third weekly honor of the season, tied for the second most in the conference.
In Lubbock over the past weekend, Ezekiel became the first athlete in the NCAA to record a sub-45 time in the 400m, breaking the Baylor indoor program record at 44.92. His mark ranked at No. 1 in the NCAA, No. 2 in the World and at No. 12 in all-time collegiate indoor 400m performances. Additionally, the Delta State, Nigeria native made history as the first African man to break 45-seconds indoors.
The next day competing in the 4x400 relay, Ezekiel ran for another sub-45 time in the final leg at 44.37. The Baylor relay team finished at 3:04.47, putting them at No. 9 in the NCAA.
The senior shares the Athlete of the Week honors with Texas Tech's Malachi Snow.
Ezekiel and the Baylor squad takes the weekend to prepare for the Big 12 Championships on Feb. 28-Mar. 1 in Lubbock, Texas.
