VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – In the final day of competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Baylor track & field programs walked away with a total of nine All-Americans, five in individuals and one in the 4x400 team relay.
With the women finishing 15th with 14 points and the men at 23rd with 12 points, this is the first time in the Ford era and since 2021 that both men and women finished inside the top-25 at the Indoor Championships.
THE RUNDOWN
After winning the national championship in the long jump, Alexis Brown returned to the track to compete in the 60-meter final. Running out of lane one, Brown sprinted for a 7.24 time to finish in sixth place and earn First Team All-American honors. This is Brown's fifth all-time All-American honor at Baylor, her first in an individual sprint race.
Following after Brown was Nathaniel Ezekiel, who came into the men's 400m event with the NCAA-leading time. Ezekiel, running out of lane two, went toe-to-toe with Georgia's Floyd but was 0.01 seconds short of the gold, earning second place at 45.44. Ezekiel is now an eight-time All-American in indoor and outdoor nationals.
Competing for his first individual All-American status, Demar Francis ran in 200m event where the entire field was spread just 0.87 seconds apart. Francis ran an even 21.00 time to earn seventh place.
Rounding out the final day, the 4x400 relay team of freshman Tyler Honeyman, senior Dillon Beddel, freshman Abbas Ali and senior Francis took on the top relay teams in the nation. Competing in section one, the relay squad put up a 3:05.64 time to finish in seventh out of the 12 teams and earn Baylor's final All-American title of the competition.
MIKE ON THE MIC
"Very happy with Alexis being a two-time All-American for this track meet," said head coach Michael Ford. "Making it to the finals in the 60 and then finishing top-six, I'm really proud of her. Overall, a great indoor season for the ladies team. Definitely the highest ranking for the ladies since I've been the head coach to finish 15th. Overall, really happy and proud for them.
"Definitely really proud of Nate, finishing up the indoor season getting second in the 400m. Definitely wished he would've won it, but he did his best for today. Demar, getting his first individual All-American title, definitely proud of him. What can I say about our 4x4 team? Without Nate, for us to finish seventh with a walk-on kid in Tyler Honeyman, I'm just so proud of all those guys. It's a good way to end the season. You've got two teams in the top 25 for the first time in a while. Now it's time to get ready for outdoor."
