BU returns four players with experience at Traditions
BRYAN, Texas — Baylor men's golf will begin its title defense on Saturday morning at the Aggie Invitational.
The 2024 champions bring back Zach Heffernan, Davis Ovard and Jonas Appel, who all finished in the top 20 a season ago, while Drew Wrightson has two previous starts in Bryan. The team's familiarity with the course is a definite plus for head coach Mike McGraw, but he knows Traditions can pack a punch, and his team needs to be ready.
"Anytime you can go into a tournament as the defending champion, it feels good," McGraw said. "That being said, this is a difficult golf course where we will have to play well, or you can get exposed. I really want to see us put together three good rounds and take some momentum into Southern Hills in a couple of weeks."
Heffernan will play at No. 1 this week after finishing tied for fourth in Bryan a season ago. The senior is making his team-leading fourth start at the Aggie.
Jonas Appel will play at No. 2 for the second straight week after leading the Bears with a top-20 finish at Maridoe a few weeks ago. The junior finished tied for 17th in his debut at Traditions in 2024.
Drew Wrightson will get the nod at No. 3 this week. The redshirt junior has two appearances at The Aggie, his best finish coming in 2023 when he tied for 34th.
Vincent Stjernfeldt makes his return to the lineup at the No. 4 position. The freshman has appeared in the lineup in five tournaments this season, with his best showing coming at the Big 12 Match Play, where he went 3-1-1 back in October.
Davis Ovard will play at No. 5 on the heels of a 29th-place finish at Maridoe. The sophomore tied for ninth in his career-first start at the Aggie last season.
Sam Dossey will play as an individual for the second straight event. After an opening-round 74, Dossey went on to finish tied for 42nd in his last start at the Maridoe Collegiate.
Once available, a full list of hole assignments, live scoring, and stats for the tournament will be available on Clippd.Scoreboard.com.
