Bears turn two double plays
TEMPE, Ariz. – Baylor Softball dropped game two of the three-game series against Arizona State, 4-2, Friday night at Farrington Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The Bears started the game hot as they jumped to the early 2-0 lead against the Sun Devils in the top of the first inning. Leading off the game, Presleigh Pilon was hit by a pitch before Brooklyn Carter and Shaylon Govan each reached on fielder's choices which put runners on the corners. A groundout brought Pilon home from third before a bunt single and stolen base set up pinch-runner Caroline Rowatt to score when Karynton Dawson reached on a fielding error.
After allowing the leadoff batter to reach, Faith Piper converted a double play on a popped-up bunt to erase the runner, before the Bears forced a groundout to end the inning.
Arizona State plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the 3-2 lead with two home runs.
After the Bears were retired in order in the second, third and fourth innings, Pilon and Carter laced back-to-back two-out singles in the fifth, but that would be all as a fielder's choice ended the threat.
Baylor allowed an unearned run to come across in the bottom of the sixth which gave ASU the 4-2 lead, but an inning-ending double play stopped further damage.
Down to its last chance in the top of the seventh, Faith Piper recorded a one-out single but that would be it as Arizona State took game two of the three-game series.
