WACO, Texas – The No. 13 Baylor men's tennis team prepares for their third homestand this April facing the Red Raiders for the first time this season. The action begins Thursday, April 10th at the Hurd Tennis Center as the Bears will recognize their seniors before heading to Fort Worth to face the No. 2 Horned Frogs on Sunday, April 13th.
Baylor (20-8, 5-1) carries momentum from last week's successful doubleheader against No. 74 Oklahoma State and Prairie View A&M. Baylor took care of business with a 7-0 victory against Prairie View A&M following a gritty 4-1 victory against the Pokes. The doubleheader victory extends the Bears win streak to six matches including four conference wins, three of which were on the road.
The Bears look to repeat history against Texas Tech. The last time these conference foes met resulted in a 4-1 Baylor victory. Texas Tech (12-9, 2-4) has played in Waco numerous times for fall tennis, but this will be the first time these two face each other this season. The Red Raiders boast conference wins against No. 71 BYU and Oklahoma State. Texas Tech is facing a three-match losing streak heading into Waco, all losses to ranked conference opponents. This will be the Red Raiders' last road conference game of the season.
The Bears will then take a trip north to face TCU (19-2, 7-0) for the third time this season on Sunday. Baylor has an opportunity to tie for first in the Big 12 conference with the Horned Frogs, assuming BU takes down Texas Tech on Thursday.
TCU's only two losses come from No. 2 Wake Forest in a 4-3 battle and to No. 3 Texas in a 4-1 match in Austin. TCU boasts the No. 1 doubles team in college tennis in Pedro Vives and Lui Maxted, who have a 21-3 record. The Bears will counter this team with the No. 25 ranked doubles team in Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Marko Miladinovic. TCU has two singles players in the top 100 with No. 8 Vives and No. 88 Cooper Woestendick. Baylor's Devin Badenhorst and Zsombor Velcz lead the Bears with 39th and 99th rankings, respectively.
Following this week's action, the Bears will head back to Waco to host the Big 12 Championships from April 16th-20th at the Hurd Tennis Center.
