WACO, Texas – Baylor volleyball freshman
Morgan Madison was named the Big 12's Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
In her first collegiate action, the Montgomery, Texas, native delivered a breakout performance, tallying an impressive 50 digs over 13 sets, for a 3.85 clip, which was ninth-best in the league this week.
Her consistency in the back row kept rallies alive and energized Baylor's defense. In her Baylor debut, she came up with 12 digs against South Alabama before establishing a new career high with 26 digs in a five-set battle with No. 10 SMU. Madison closed the weekend with 12 more digs in a four-set win over LSU. Additionally effective at the service line, she finished the weekend hitting .983 with five aces, which was second-most on the team.
Madison is Baylor's first Big 12 Rookie of the Week since
Kendal Murphy took home the award in November of 2023. Baylor's last newcomer to take home the award in the first week of the season was Averi Carlson in 2022.
Madison and the Bears return to action on Thursday against Northwestern in the home opener at the Ferrell Center. The match is one of three for BU as part of the Baylor Invitational and gets going with a 6 p.m. first serve.
John Morris and Hannah Sedwick will have the call for ESPN+.
