Bears split the weekend bid, starting with old Big 12 rival
WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer is back for another weekend, hosting the Texas Longhorns on Thursday at 7 p.m. before a trip to San Marcos to see Texas State on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Coming off a bounce-back win over College of Charleston, Texas comes to town for the 33rd meeting between the programs, but for the first time as a member of the Southeastern Conference. The Longhorns have won six of the last seven matchups with BU, with the lone exception a scoreless draw in 2021. Baylor's last win over Texas came in the 2017 Big 12 Championship, when Julie James scored a golden goal to send BU to the semifinal round.
Texas holds a 2-3-1 record this season, defeating Long Beach State and, most recently, College of Charleston. Against the Big 12, the Longhorns are 0-1-2, falling to Houston 4-1 and TCU 3-2 after a 1-1 draw with Arizona State.
Thursday night's match will be a green out, with the first 200 students receiving free green T-shirts. Admission to Betty Lou Mays Field is free this season.
After two days off, BU returns to the pitch at Texas State on Sunday. The Bears and Bobcats drew 2-2 in 2024, and Baylor will look for its fifth win in the series in just its second road match all-time in San Marcos.
Texas State holds a 3-1-1 record, going 0-1-1 against Power Four opponents with a 1-1 draw against Texas A&M and a 5-1 loss to Arizona State. The Bobcats face No. 19 Oklahoma on Thursday evening.
Baylor is off to its best start under head coach Michelle Lenard, remaining unbeaten with a 2-0-2 record through four matches. The Bears defeated then-No. 17 Mississippi State 2-0 last week at Betty Lou Mays Field and earned a win at Montana to snap the Grizzlies' 18-match home unbeaten streak.
