Bears face Gamecocks in covered arena Thursday
WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian opens its spring slate hosting No. 3 South Carolina on Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Willis Family Equestrian Center at 12 p.m.
Due to the weather early in the week, the meet will take place exclusively in the covered arena. The meet will start with Fences, then Reining before both Flat and Horsemanship will compete simultaneously to finish the competition.
The Bears (1-5, 1-2 Big 12) face the Gamecocks (5-2, 1-2 SEC) for the first time since 2022. South Carolina currently leads the all-time series 9-7, with the green and gold falling 11-8 on the road in the 2022-23 season opener.
Fans who attend Thursday's matchup can enter a drawing to win two tickets to the Houston Rodeo.
Last time out, BU dropped an 11-6 meet against then-No. 7 SMU. In the meet, senior Lauren Jorgensen posted a season high of 86 and earned her first Most Outstanding Performer in Flat this season. Caroline Robelen also scored a point in Flat. In Fences, senior Lauren Reid earned the sole point for BU, while in Reining, junior Sadie Peters and senior Kalena Reynolds won their respective points. Finishing the meet in Horsemanship, senior Anna Thron outscored her opponent to earn a point.
Through the fall slate, Reid leads the squad with two MOPs in Fences and three in Flat. With her five combined MOPs, Reid currently holds the most MOPs in the Big 12. In Reining, Reynolds has one MOP for the Bears.
