Junior recorded the third 15-foot indoor vault in program history
IRVING, Texas – Off to an historic start to the indoor season, Baylor junior Molly Haywood was named the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
This is the second-straight Athlete of the Week recognition for the 19th-ranked Baylor women's team after world-leading sprinter Tiriah Kelley shared the honor last week.
One week after winning the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., with a 14-9 vault, Haywood was back on the winner's stand again at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, clearing the 15-0 bar on her first attempt.
With three vaults over 15 feet now, the junior All-American from Humble, Texas, has the school's top three marks and is the only female in program history to go 15-0 or higher indoors. She owns the school record at 15-1 ½ and set Texas A&M's Fasken Indoor facility record last year at 15-0 ¼.
Going out of state for the first time, Baylor track and field will compete in Kansas State's DeLoss Dodds Invitational, which begins Friday at the Indoor Track and Field Complex in Manhattan, Kan.
