Scott collects second national weekly honor from U.S. Basketball Writers Association
INDIANAPOLIS – Baylor women's basketball redshirt sophomore Taliah Scott has been named one of five USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Players of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the association Tuesday.
The Florida native averaged 22.5 points in contests at Oklahoma State and at Iowa State this week, helping the Bears mount a historic 19-point comeback against the Cowgirls before sinking the game-winner against the No. 10 Cyclones with two seconds remaining.
In Stillwater, Scott scored eight of the Bears' 29 fourth-quarter points, where BU outscored OSU by 21 points in the final frame to secure the first of two road victories in the second week of Big 12 action. Closing the victorious road trip, all 21 of Scott's points came in the second half after turning five drawn fouls into eight made free throws.
Coming up big from the line, Scott added 21 points from the charity stripe between the two games, shooting 91.3%. Her 105 free throws on the season rank second in the nation, only behind Kansas' S'Mya Nichols.
Alongside Scott, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association also selected Mikayla Blakes of Vanderbilt, Avery Howell of Washington, Tonie Morgan of Kentucky and Nikola Priede of Vermont. Syracuse's Uche Izoje is Freshman of the Week and Duke was named team of the week.
Baylor is back home for a pair of Big 12 contests, hosting Colorado on Thursday night at Foster Pavilion before welcoming Kansas on Sunday afternoon. Both games will be live on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.
