Story lines
• 2,250 miles East of last week's tournament site, Baylor will open the Clemson Classic on Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT against Lipscomb, followed by contests against Coastal Carolina, No. 24 Clemson, with Sunday's opponent to be determined upon completion of the first two days of competition.
• The Bears are 3-1 all-time against the Clemson Classic Field, with Saturday's meeting with Clemson being Baylor's first-ever against the Tigers
• Clemson is one of just five power-conference teams Baylor has never played, the other four also hail from the ACC (Duke, NC State, Pitt and Virginia Tech)
• Senior Amber Toven is coming off a stellar week where she was named the Big 12 Player of the Week after hitting .435, with a .739 slugging %, driving in 11 runs and scoring nine
• The Bears are rounding into form in the circle, allowing just 11 runs in 40 innings of work last week for a 1.93 ERA with 36 strikeouts
• Tennessee transfer Peyton Tanner is enjoying one of the best stretches of her young career going 3-1 with a 1.10 ERA, 21 strikeouts and a save in her last five appearances
• Arizona State Transfer Cambree Creager has picked up the win in each of her last two appearances, going 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball, tying a career-high with six strikeouts
• BU went 4-1 in the Campbell/Cartier Classic, outscoring their opponents 27-11, including a split with (RV) San Diego State, with BU winning the finale between the two 11-2
• Against the Aztecs, Freshman Kaygen Marshall became just the fourth BU freshman since 2015, and the first since 2021 to belt two homeruns in the same game
• BU's 9-2 start is its best since starting 2023, when it began 18-2 en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance
• The Bears have now opened a season at 9-2 or better for the 12th time in the Glenn Moore era
• Moore enters his 30th season as a head coach, making him the fifth-longest tenured power-conference head coach
• His 1,090 career wins put him ninth among all active coaches (6th among power-conference coaches)
• Baylor has a 492-194 mark all-time at Getterman Stadium and, BU has had a winning record in all but one full season of competition since its doors were opened in 1999.
• The Bears have 14 matchups against teams featured in the ESPN/USA Softball Preseason Top 25 including dates with both of the Preseason No. 1 teams (Texas Tech and Texas)
• BU has remaining home dates with No. 1 Texas (3/21), No. 11 Texas A&M (4/15) and No. 20 Oklahoma State (4/24-26), with road contests scheduled at No. 12 Clemson (2/21), at RV UCF (3/13-15), at No. 1 Texas (3/20) and at No. 1 Texas Tech (4/30-5/2).
• Brooklyn Carter represented the Bears on this seasons Preseason All-Big 12 Softball squad, BU's fifth preseason all-conference selection in the five-year history of the preseason team
• Carter has 76 career stolen bases, which is eighth-best in the country and second-best in the Power Four
• Picked eighth in the Preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll, Baylor has met or outperformed its preseason expectations in 17 of Moore's 25 previous seasons at Baylor
• Tasked with replacing several key players, including the programs second three-time All-American in Shaylon Govan, the Bears bring in a mix of experienced veterans and talented newcomers.
• The Captain of the defense, Toven brings 174 games of college experience into 2026, including 129 in Green and Gold
• Toven teams up with a new double-play partner, Piper, who replaces Presleigh Pilon at second base. The Duo is gunning for the program record for double-plays in a season (31 in 2023), after BU tallied 28 twin-killings in 2025
• Sophomore Karynton Dawson brings elite speed to the outfield, tallying the team lead in triples (4) a season ago
• Robinson, Texas, native Marshall was named to D1Softball's D100 freshmen watch list, joining her fellow freshmen, Gusman and Haas on the Softball America Big 12 Freshman Watch List
• Marshall (Robinson), Harper Haas (Midway) Savanna Pogue (Crawford) all played their high school ball within 25 miles of Getterman Stadium, with Haas and Marshall playing less than 10 miles away from their college home
• Haas (2025), Marshall (2025) and Pogue (2022) all led their teams to UIL Texas State Championships
• Toven (Arizona, 2022), Carter (Washington, 2023) and Tanner (Tennessee, 2025) all boast Women's College World Series experience at their former stops
• Baylor debuted it's new Peggy Hawkins Softball Locker Room this January after a five-month renovation. Loyal softball supporters helped BU fund a transformational project that exceeded half a million dollars
• It's fitted with flat-screen TVs, a lounge, a nutrition center, a hallway vanity and several other State-of-the-Art amenities
• Working with the local architecture firm, RBDR, Former Baylor Player Zadie LaValley (2021-24) was instrumental in helping design the new space for her former team
