Bears second as team, Yurang Li tied for 5th at Golf Club at Houston

CHEVRON COLLEGIATE DAY 1 RESULTS

HUMBLE, Texas – Led by junior transfer Yurang Li's 3-under 69, the 20^th-ranked Baylor women shot a sizzling 9-under 279 in Monday's opening round of the Chevron Collegiate and are second behind No. 16 North Carolina through 36 holes at the Golf Club of Houston.

The Bears dropped a few shots late and finished the day at 10-under 566, five shots behind the Tar Heels, who shot 11-under 277 in the second round. Third-ranked Oregon is third at 9-under 567 and SMU is fourth at 8-under.

"Today was a grind. We played some really solid golf this morning, but the long day got to us at the end," Baylor coach Jay Goble said. "We will regroup, get some rest and get ready for a strong finish (Tuesday)."

Li got to 6-under midway through her afternoon round, but she closed with a pair of bogeys and sits in a tie for fifth at 4-under 140. Oregon's Kiara Romero is the 36-hole leader at 8-under, taking a one-shot lead over Texas State's Grace Quintanilla.

Silje Ohma and Malena Castro shot matching rounds of 70-72 and are tied for 11^th at 2-under 142. Freshman Amelia Wan is one shot back and tied for 19^th at 1-under 143, followed by senior Bridget Boczar tied for 25^th at even-par 144.

Baylor will be paired with North Carolina and Oregon with an 8 a.m. shotgun start for Tuesday's final round. Live scoring is available at Chevron Collegiate, with live streaming at Babygrande.
