Janusek’s steals home as go-ahead run; Armstrong drives in four runs in midweek victory
Freshman outfielder Brady Janusek provided an early spark with a leadoff home run and redshirt senior first baseman Tyce Armstrong also hit a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning as part of his four-RBI day. Janusek later stole home in the bottom of the eighth inning for what amounted to be the game-winning run.
Fifth-year senior right-hander Caleb Bunch got the win, his second of the season, with 1.2 perfect frames of relief. Sophomore righty Zack Wallace was sharp in his second start of the year with three scoreless innings on the mound.
With the win, BU has now won 18 of its last 19 midweek games, dating back to March 26, 2024, and remains undefeated all-time against SFA.
THE RUNDOWN
Yet again, Baylor wasted no time in getting out to a lead as Janusek and Armstrong hit a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the first to give BU a quick 2-0 lead.
Wallace faced just one batter over the minimum in his three innings, taking advantage of a pair of double plays to collect his third scoreless outing of the year.
In the bottom of the third, the Bears pushed across three runs as Armstrong doubled in redshirt junior infielder Travis Sanders and scored on redshirt freshman outfielder Hunter Snow's first-career home run, a two-run blast that made it 5-0.
The Lumberjacks cut into BU's lead with a three-run homer in the top of the fifth. Baylor answered right back with a three spot in the bottom of the frame, thanks to an RBI double from Sanders and a two-run double by Armstrong, extending the lead to 8-3 through five frames.
However, SFA closed the gap with a five-run sixth inning on five hits and two walks, knotting the scoreline at 8-8. With runners on the corners and a chance to take the lead in the eighth, SFA bounced into a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.
Janusek led off the bottom of the eighth with a sharp single, his third knock of the day, and moved up to third after a sacrifice bunt and SFA fielding error. BU then had runners on the corners with one down and a double steal resulted in Janusek crossing the plate for what amounted to be the game's winning run.
After the Bears were unable to add any further insurance runs, Bunch worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a strikeout and picked up his second win of the year.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On what he liked about tonight's lineup…
"I loved the way that we came out of the shooter early, and [Brady] Janusek started us off with the leadoff bomb. That was big, you know, hitting two home runs in the first inning and Hunter Snow with a big bomb too. We swung the bats with some authority, hit some doubles, that was good. We played really good defense, turned double plays and our pitching staff should have a lot of confidence. Tuesdays are always tough, and it's a fight, but you take them how you can get them."
Freshman OF Brady Janusek
On stealing home for the go-ahead run…
"When Coach put on the play, you know my eyes lit up being a guy who can steal bases. So I got the opportunity to steal home, got way out there and the stars aligned and I was able to score, so it was pretty cool."
Redshirt Senior 1B Tyce Armstrong
On the offensive performance tonight…
"We trust all our guys to get it done in those opportunities. Brytton [Clements] came in and had a great AB late. [Brady] Janusek perfectly executed one of our running plays and it worked out for us. That's what we practice for. That's what we drill into our heads. So, it was pretty cool to see work out."
