Story lines
• Baylor Softball Completes its six-game homestand against South Dakota State on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. on ESPN+
• The Bears will then embark on a 10-game stretch away from Getterman Stadium beginning with the Campbell/Cartier Classic at San Diego State.
• BU is coming off a wild weekend where they went 4-1 in the Getterman Classic, highlighted by three walk-off wins, including two in one day against New Mexico and Wichita State
• Amber Toven, Leah Cran, Faith Piper, Karynton Dawson and Gianna Gusman were all selected to the All-Tournament Team
• Toven finished the weekend slugging 1.091 with a pair of homeruns, including Friday's walk-off against the Lobos
• Cran tied for a team-high slugging six hits, for a .429 clip across five games, while driving in three runs
• Piper was hot all weekend collecting a hit in all five games, extending her hitting streak to six games, one shy of her career high.
• Dawson's tournament was highlighted by a career-best four-knock game against New Mexico,while also knocking in the game-winning run against Wichita State later the same day
• Gusman came up clutch, tying for the team lead with five RBIs on the weekend including a bases-clearing double against Northwestern State that jump-started a 9-1 win to close out the Tournament.
• Gusman was part of a strong showing by a talented Freshman joining Olivia Buettner, Kaygen Marshall and Harper Haas to finish the weekend with 10 hits and nine RBIs, including Marshall's game-tying two-RBI single against Wichita State on Friday
• Peyton Tanner Flexed her muscle in the Finale delivering a dominant performance going 4.0 innings scattering five hits and striking out a career-high nine batters, the first Bear with 9+ strikeouts since Aliyah Binford in May of 2024.
• Baylor boasts a 90-21 (.811) mark in the Getterman Classic, with it's best record being 6-0 (2002, 2003 and 2005)
• BU's 4-1 start is its best since starting 2023, when it began 4-1 en route to an NCAA Tournament Appearance
• The Bears have now opened a season at 4-1 or better for the 15th time in the Glenn Moore era
• Moore enters his 30th season as a head coach, making him the fifth-longest tenured power-conference head coach
• His 1,085 career wins put him ninth among all active coaches (6th among power-conference coaches)
• Baylor has a 491-194 mark all-time at Getterman Stadium and, BU has had a winning record in all but one full season of competition since its doors were opened in 1999.
• The Bears have 14 matchups against teams featured in the ESPN/USA Softball Preseason Top 25 including dates with both of the Preseason No. 1 teams (Texas Tech and Texas)
• BU has remaining home dates with No. 1 Texas (3/21), No. 11 Texas A&M (4/15) and No. 20 Oklahoma State (4/24-26), with road contests scheduled at No. 12 Clemson (2/21), at RV UCF (3/13-15), at No. 1 Texas (3/20) and at No. 1 Texas Tech (4/30-5/2).
• Brooklyn Carter represented the Bears on this seasons Preseason All-Big 12 Softball squad, BU's fifth preseason all-conference selection in the five-year history of the preseason team
• Carter has 73 career stolen bases, which is seventh-best in the country and second-best in the Power Four
• Picked eighth in the Preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll, Baylor has met or outperformed its preseason expectations in 17 of Moore's 25 previous seasons at Baylor
• Tasked with replacing several key players, including the programs second three-time All-American in Shaylon Govan, the Bears bring in a mix of experienced veterans and talented newcomers.
• The Captain of the defense, Toven brings 165 games of college experience into 2026, including 118 in Green and Gold
• Toven teams up with a new double-play partner, Piper, who replaces Presleigh Pilon at second base. The Duo is gunning for the program record for double-plays in a season (31 in 2023), after BU tallied 28 twin-killings in 2025
• Sophomore Karynton Dawson brings elite speed to the outfield, tallying the team lead in triples (4) a season ago
• Robinson, Texas, native Marshall was named to D1Softball's D100 freshmen watch list, joining her fellow freshmen, Gusman and Haas on the Softball America Big 12 Freshman Watch List
• Toven (Arizona, 2022), Carter (Washington, 2023) and Tanner (Tennessee, 2025) all boast Women's College World Series experience at their former stops
• Baylor debuted it's new Peggy Hawkins Softball Locker Room this January after a five-month renovation. Loyal softball supporters helped BU fund a transformational project that exceeded half a million dollars
• It's fitted with flat-screen TVs, a lounge, a nutrition center, a hallway vanity and several other State-of-the-Art amenities
• Working with the local architecture firm, RBDR, Former Baylor Player Zadie LaValley (2021-24) was instrumental in helping design the new space for her former team
