Bears extend nation’s third-longest active appearance streak in the tournament
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's basketball was named the No. 6 seed in the Sacramento 2 Region of the 2026 NCAA Tournament, as announced on ESPN during the Selection Show on Sunday evening. The Bears will open the tournament at Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium against the winner of the Nebraska/Richmond play-in game.
Named a No. 6 seed for the first time in program history, the Bears' first-round game will tip off from Durham, N.C., on Friday, March 20.
The 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball national champion will be crowned in Phoenix at Mortgage Matchup Center, home of the Phoenix Mercury and Suns, with the Final Four set for April 3 and the national championship to be decided on Easter Sunday, April 5.
Baylor continues its run as a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament, earning its 22nd consecutive selection, the third-longest active streak in the nation behind Tennessee (44) and UConn (36). Overall, the Bears are 58-20 all time in the Big Dance, with 16 Sweet 16 appearances, 10 Elite Eight trips, four Final Fours and three national championships.
The Bears finished the 2025-26 season with a 24-7 regular-season record, placing third in the Big 12 with a 13-5 mark in league play. BU's lone postseason appearance so far this season was a nine-point loss to Colorado, named a 10 seed in the Fort Worth 1 Regional, in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals.
