SB Walks off Iowa State to Complete the Series Sweep
3/8/2026 3:24:00 PM | Softball
Sunday was Baylor’s first Big 12 Sweep since April of last season
Nearly 18 hours after the game was suspended for rain, Iowa State erased a 4-0 Baylor lead, only to see the Bears score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a Cyclone throwing error.
Sunday marked the program's first conference-opening sweep since 2021, when the Bears swept Texas Tech. Baylor finished a seven-game homestand 5-2, improving to 17-6 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 Play.
RUNDOWN
On Saturday night, Baylor jumped out early with two runs in the opening frame. Amber Toven doubled to right field before Karynton Dawson drove her home with a triple to deep left. Leah Cran followed with a sacrifice fly to center to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage.
The Bears added two more runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Olivia Buettner drew a walk before pinch runner Gigi Lindsey stole second and later scored on an RBI single from Averie Waddell. Sa'Mya Jones followed with a walk and stole second before Brooklyn Carter delivered another RBI single up the middle to push the lead to four runs.
After rain halted the game in the bottom of the third inning on Saturday night, Iowa State answered in the fifth inning on Sunday afternoon, plating four runs to even the game.
Cambree Creager entered in relief and helped stop the 'Clones' momentum, striking out five over the final 2.1 innings while stranding key Iowa State baserunners to keep the game tied heading into the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brooklyn Carter sparked the rally with a single to left. On the next play, Toven grounded to second, but Carter raced around from first and scored when the throw from Iowa State first baseman Sydney Malott sailed wide, giving Baylor the 5-4 walk-off victory and completing the sweep.

QUOTABLE
Glenn Moore the wild win: "Yeah, I think my blood pressure is adjusting to this type of a play. We've come out on top a few times with games that have made my blood pressure jump this year. I don't know that we're going to continue to do that, but I'm really happy with the way it has gone so far this year."
Moore on the Series Sweep: "It's huge. It's hard to do that in power conference. This team has been a thorn in our side for the last few years, so I was really happy with what we did up until the delay. We controlled pretty much the whole weekend. I thought, with a few exceptions, we played really solid ball. I was not happy that they came back and tied it back up, but Cambree [Creager] came in and did a good job, allowing us to get the sweep, which is very important right now because the road ahead is very tough."
Brooklyn Carter on coming up big in the bottom of the seventh: "It was very exciting. Especially coming back after the rain delay. We had to come back with a lot of momentum. Obviously, we started a little slow and had some errors in the outfield, but we talk about redemption a lot, so to be able to rally and redeem ourselves was great."
