LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 34 Baylor (13-8, 8-5 Big 12) fell to No. 33 Texas Tech (16-9, 7-6 Big 12) 4-1 on Saturday at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The Bears secured their lone point with a victory at the No. 4 singles position. The Red Raiders clinched the doubles point by winning matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and added three singles victories to seal the match.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor fell short in capturing the doubles point against Texas Tech. The No. 1 doubles team of Gabrielle Villegas and Zuzanna Kubacha was defeated 6-0 by the No. 77 ranked pair of Kate Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy. At No. 2 doubles, Alian Zack and Na Dong lost 6-2 to Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola.
Meanwhile, the match at No. 3 doubles featuring Kennedy Gibbs and Luna Ivkovic against Polina Sleptsova and Ella Brownback was left unfinished with the Bears leading 4-3.
In singles play, the Bears managed to secure one victory at No. 4 singles, where Zack defeated Andreea Lila in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, reducing the Red Raiders' lead. However, the Red Raiders extended their lead with a win at No. 3 singles, where Daskalova prevailed over Gibbs, 6-0, 6-1.
Dong, ranked No. 61, faced Murphy at No. 1 singles, where she fell 6-1, 6-4, giving the Red Raiders another point. Kubacha, ranked No. 114, battled at No. 2 singles but was defeated by Dmitrichenko, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
The matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, featuring Mu-Jie Tzeng and Ivkovic respectively, were left unfinished, concluding the dual match with a final score of Texas Tech 4, Baylor 1.

The Bears will compete in the Big 12 Tournament beginning on Wednesday, April 15 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The final regular season matches wrap up Sunday afternoon, after which the Big 12 will release the tournament draw.
