BU’s Carter extended her career-best on-base streak to 15 games
WACO, Texas – No. 14 Oklahoma State used a fast start to knock off Baylor softball, 9-1 in six innings, Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.
The Cowgirls plated four runs in the opening frame and never looked back, while the Bears were unable to recover despite a strong effort out of the bullpen by Sadie Ross.
RUNDOWN
Oklahoma State wasted no time jumping ahead, stringing together four hits in the first inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Amanda Hasler, who came up with a big hit for the Pokes for the second-straight game to take a 4-0 lead.
The Cowgirls added another run in the second on a solo home run to extend the advantage to 5-0.
Baylor turned to Sadie Ross in relief of starter Lexie Warncke. Ross stabilized the game, retiring nine of the first 10 hitters she faced and allowing the Bears to settle in defensively and halt the momentum.
Baylor broke through in the fourth inning as Sa'Mya Jones singled and later came around to score on a failed pickoff attempt by Oklahoma State, trimming the deficit to 5-1.
Oklahoma State added an insurance run in the fifth on an RBI double before pulling away in the sixth with three more runs to secure the run-rule victory.
GAME NOTES
QUOTABLE
Glenn Moore on his team's slow start on Saturday— "She [Hasler] put a good swing on the pitch [for the Grand Slam]. We didn't have the best outing or the best start with Lexie, unfortunately and dug a big hole. It's hard to recover from that, but we brought in Sadie, and I thought she had one of her better outings. Her pitch count went a little bit higher than she's typically used to throwing in that role, but she threw some great balls and got some groundouts, which is what we needed out of her. We got a run, but then we gave up another one. We just dug too big a hole, and of course, it fell apart toward the end."
WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will attempt to salvage the series in game three, beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon from Getterman Stadium. The Bears will honor their three seniors, Brooklyn Carter, Amber Toven and Kaci West, after Sunday's series finale.
All games are televised on ESPN+ and heard on air and online via 101.3 COOL FM.
