WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis Alexandru Chirita etched his name to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
The 2025-26 Academic All-District Women's Tennis teams, selected by CSC members, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes women's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Chirita recently earned his graduate degree from Baylor in Sport Pedagogy, finishing with a 3.61 GPA. On the court, Chirita contributed to Baylor's stellar 2026 spring season, advancing to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2022.
Chirita played doubles on Court One primarily, partnered with senior Zsombor Velcz, where the duo earned a season-high ranking of 69 and ended the season with All-Big 12 First Team Doubles honors and a 13-13 record. Chirita and Velcz went 4-2 against nationally ranked doubles duos, including the No. 1 ranked duo in the Big 12 Championship semifinal match against TCU.
In singles, Chirita competed primarily on Court Four, contributing to Baylor's upset over No. 1 Ohio State with a win over Bryce Nakashima at the Hurd Tennis Center.
For his two-year career at Baylor, Chirita holds a career record of 35-21 in singles and 23-19 in doubles. In the classroom, Chirita is a two-time Baylor Academic Champion and two-time Big 12 Honor Roll honoree.
The graduate advanced to the national voting period for Academic All-America consideration, voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 2.
