SOC’s Azul Alvarez Added to Harmann Trophy Players to Watch List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Baylor soccer's Azul Alvarez was named to the IWSOC/United Soccer Coaches Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Players to Watch List on Wednesday afternoon.
Alvarez, who is entering her fifth year of collegiate soccer, earned All-Midwest Region honors in 2025 after recording 12 shutouts and helping lead Baylor to the Big 12 semifinals and the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.
A two-time Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week and All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2025, Alvarez played all but 22 minutes of the Bears' historic campaign. She recorded 97 saves, the ninth most in program history, while logging 2,082 minutes, the fourth most by a Baylor goalkeeper in a season. Her .820 save percentage ranks among the program's top 10 single-season marks.
The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor, recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. It is named in honor of the late Robert Hermann, the legendary St. Louis businessman and soccer executive who founded the National Professional Soccer League, the first professional soccer league in the United States that became the North American Soccer League. He was inducted into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.
The 65-player watch list was compiled by members of the Division I Women's All-America Council from a list of returning 2025 All-Americans and first-team all-region players. A total of 15 players will be named 2026 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Dec. 4 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-America voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes and three players will be named finalists. The 2026 recipient will be announced Jan. 8, 2027, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis.
Baylor opens the 2026 season tonight on the road against SEC foe Arkansas at 7 p.m. CT. The match will stream live on SEC Network+.
