BU’s Bailey Warren finished with a team-high 14 kills

WACO, Texas – Baylor volleyball opened the 20th edition of the Baylor Classic with a 3-1 victory over Incarnate Word on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center, 25-10, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18.

Bailey Warren led the Bears with a season-high 14 kills and 17.5 points, marking the first time she has led Baylor in kills since Oct. 29, 2025, at Iowa State. Ksenia Rakhmanchik added 11 kills while hitting a career-best .435, surpassing 500 career kills in the process to reach 507.

Baylor finished with 53 kills and held the Cardinals to a .064 hitting percentage. The Bears hit .433 in the opening set and .308 in the fourth, while adding 73 digs and 12 blocks. The win moved Baylor to 7-2, while Incarnate Word fell to 2-6.

RUNDOWN
The Bears won seven of the final eight rallies, moving from an 18-9 lead to a 25-10 first-set win. Jules Hernandez served the final four points, including an ace, and Ksenia Rakhmanchik finished the set with back-to-back kills.

BU created separation in the second set, going on a 7-1 spurt to balloon the lead from 12-10 to 19-11, on the strength of some big-time swings by Nadiya Johnson and Warren. Incarnate Word answered to get to 19-15, but BU finished the set 25-18, punctuated by a Taylor Crain ace.

The Bears put themselves in position to close it out late in the third set, using a Grace Carroll kill, a Cardinals attack error and Bailey Warren's kill to jump in front 23-22. Incarnate Word answered with the final three points, including a kill and two BU attack errors, to take the set 25-23.

Baylor responded emphatically in the fourth set, racing to a 6-3 lead before pushing it to 13-10. The Bears then took control with a 6-0 run, fueled by kills from Rakhmanchik and a pair of UIW errors, to take a 19-11 advantage. Baylor continued to apply pressure down the stretch, reaching match point at 24-17 before Victoria Davis finished the match with a kill off the set from Isabela Haggard, securing the 25-18 set victory and 3-1 match win.

BU is 50-6 all-time in the Baylor Classic
The Bears are 2-0 all-time against Incarnate Word.
BU is 73-35 against in-state teams in the Ryan McGuyre Era.
Wednesday night was just the third time in nine matches this season the Bears have gone to a fourth set.

QUOTABLE
Bailey Warren on building on a good weekend in Nebraska — "I think our potential is insane. In Nebraska, we performed pretty well; obviously it didn't go how we wanted, but I think we saw a lot of good things from that match and we want to build on those. I think there is some confidence there for sure, obviously. We did lose a set that we probably shouldn't have, but I don't think that defines who we are as a team. I think we just have things that we need to build on and cut out bad habits, maybe."

Mya Hemmer on the team's continued growth — "I feel we really try to push coming out strong. I feel every game we've played, we've been getting better at coming out stronger. I'm excited for these next couple games to see how well we perform coming out the gate again."
