Bears connect off only shot on goal

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – No. 12 Baylor soccer and No. 9 West Virginia played to a 1-1 draw Friday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in the Big 12 opener for both teams, as the Mountaineers' Saige Wimes scored in the 90^th minute to answer a 78^th-minute goal from Lauren Omholt.

Baylor did not attempt a shot in the first half and went into the break scoreless as West Virginia put up seven shots. Azul Alvarez kept the match level, stopping six shots for a season-high total, with five of the saves coming in the second half. West Virginia's Bailey Herfurth was not credited with a save.

Omholt's goal came on the Bears' only shot on goal of the match. Callie Conrad played the ball to Aryanna Jimison, who fed Omholt, and she sneaked around the goalkeeper to slot the finish into the bottom left corner off her right foot for a 1-0 lead.

The goal was Omholt's fourth of the season, tying her with Grace White for the team lead. Conrad and Jimison each recorded their third assist of the year.

Wimes tied the match off a West Virginia corner kick, finding the bottom left corner off a feed from Anna Hauer with 15 seconds left on the clock. The Mountaineers outshot the Bears, 20-4, and held a 7-1 edge in shots on goal, while also leading in corner kicks, 6-3.

The Bears return home to host Oklahoma State on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field. The match will stream live on ESPN+.
