Baylor consistently graduates its student-athletes at one of the nation's highest rates. The Athletic Department is committed to providing every student-athlete the opportunity they need to succeed academically and that effort is rewarded every time a Bear or Lady Bear walks across the stage to receive his or her degree. Baylor ranks first in the Big 12 Conference in graduation rates for all student athletes, male student-athletes, and football players. Over the last two years, Baylor has graduated 140 student-athletes, including 50 football players. The Big 12 included 69 Bears on its academic all-conference teams during the 1999-2000 academic year. The Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll included 157 Baylor student-athletes during the Spring 2000 semester. While seeing to it that its athletes receive the finest education possible, Baylor competes in the Big 12 Conference, a league that produces national powerhouse teams in every sport. Baylor is the only private school among the elite 12 and as such is in a unique position to prove that such institutions can display excellence in every endeavor. Without the support of the Baylor Bear Foundation many student-athletes would never have the opportunity to attend college. Your gift to the Bear Foundation will help pay the cost of a scholarship for a deserving student-athlete. With annual scholarship costs now reaching $4 million, the Bear Foundation is focused on fully funding the Athletic Department's scholarship needs. Last year the Bear Foundation presented the University a record $2,050,000 check to help with those scholarship costs. We need your help to fully meet this challenge. Baylor has taken the next step by joining the Big 12 Conference. It is up to its loyal alumni, friends and supporters to help Baylor in its goal to win championships in all 17 of its men's and women's sports.
