Abbie Fredrick joined the Baylor track and field staff in August of 2022 and served as the assistant distance and cross country coach for the Bears until August of 2024.
During the 2023 cross country season, Fredrick helped guide the women's squad to its first non-dual meet win since 2018 at the season-opening UIW Twilight. Hayden Gold's silver medal at the UIW Twilight was the best finish from a Baylor woman in a non-dual meet since 2017. Among the men's and women's teams, both were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams with a total of 13 athletes being named to the Academic All-Big 12 teams.
Fredrick also assisted Baylor in hosting the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship, where the Bears finished tied for 6th in the women's team score with two individual champions.
In her first season at Baylor, Fredrick assisted the distance squad to three individual all-region finishes at the NCAA South Central Regional with both teams in the top 10. Staying stellar in the classroom, Ellie Hodge, Ryan Hodge and Drew Snyder also were recognized as All-Academic with the USTFCCCA for cross country and both teams were also recognized.
Fredrick made her way from Waco after a stint coaching at her alma mater of Black Hills State University, an NCAA Division II school in Spearfish, S.D. In her one year with the Yellow Jackets, Fredrick doubled the recruiting class size from the year prior.
Before her return to BHSU, Fredrick was the Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Dawson Community College in Glendive, Mont. In her time at DCC, she coached the program’s first All-America honoree in cross country. Along with the distance events, Fredrick worked most closely with sprints, middle distance and oversaw strength and conditioning efforts.
In her collegiate career, Fredrick earned All-Academic and All-American honors in the 2016-20 seasons. The exercise science graduate earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference weekly honors in February 2020 after running a 4:53.25 (converted) mile, which landed her No. 14 at the time that season in Division II.
Fredrick graduated high school from Cheyenne East H.S. in Cheyenne, Wyo.
