QUEEN OF THE BOARDS
Darianna Littlepage-Buggs admits that she didn't even have a clue what a double-double was as a freshman at Baylor. "Once I figured it out, it just kind of stuck," said the 6-1 senior forward. "I just knew, if I can do one thing, I can go rebound, and I just stuck to that."
LOCK-DOWN DEFENSE
Following the scouting report to a tee, the No. 18/17 Baylor women's basketball team took away Utah's 3-point threats and back-cut layups to hold the Utes to 26.2% shooting overall and just 3-of-25 from outside the arc in a defensive-minded 61-45 win at the Huntsman Center.
My Baylor Story: Jack Sterrett
Making an immediate impact, Sterrett was one of Baylor's top two runners at four of his five meets as a freshman, finishing ahead of Wisconsin transfer Nick Hruskoci at the Big 12 Championships and NCAA South Central Regional to cap off the season.
FRESH START
One thing is very clear, Joe Klanderman wasn't brought to Baylor as the defensive coordinator to keep the status quo. "There will be considerable changes to what we do and what we may look like," the 46-year-old Klanderman said at Dec. 15's introductory press conference.
FIVE MINUTES OF FAME
"I've been in college for three years, and to be able to touch the floor and be out there with my teammates and really represent the culture of JOY was a great thing," James Goodis said. "It's very surreal."
HEAD OF THE SNAKE
Baylor's "head of the defensive snake," Bella Fontleroy matched her career high with five blocks, took three charges and added 11 points, five rebounds, one assist and a steal to help the No. 16 Bears hold off the Colorado Buffaloes, 56-52, at Foster Pavilion.
ONE OF ONE
"And the truth of the matter is that it was just the start," said the 45-year-old Doug McNamee, who was officially introduced on Monday, Dec. 8 as Baylor's Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, a role that he calls an "absolute one-of-one job opportunity."
INSTANT IMPACT
And while Ella Brow "didn't do anything to wow us," she made the most of her first five minutes in a Baylor uniform. The Aussie native had two assists and a rebound and provided a defensive spark in the Bears' biggest comeback in program history, rallying from a 19-point deficit to knock off the Cowgirls, 77-68.
KEEPING THEM HOME
With a goal of "keeping the 254 in the 254," Baylor head coach Dave Aranda announced a 2026 signing class on Wednesday, Dec. 3 that included wide receivers London Smith from Waco University High School and Davion Peters from just down the road in Temple.
My Baylor Story: Gabbi Essix
“This is super special. I can’t wait to go on this journey with my new family,” Essix said. “It’s just one match at a time, staying focused on who’s in front of us, and just knowing that we have the potential to do anything we set our minds to.”
