STILLWATER, Okla. - The jinx of Oklahoma State's Gallagher-Iba Arena continues for the Lady Bears. The Cowgirls defeated Baylor, 75-54, for the fourth straight time in Stillwater.
Senior guard Mandy Hayworth, with her 17 points, led the Baylor squad in scoring for the third straight game. It was her 10th double-digit scoring effort of the season. She also added four assists and two steals.
Redshirt freshman Hilary Akromis narrowly missed a double-double with her 11 points and team-leading nine rebounds.
The Cowgirls were led by freshman guard Shelby Hutchens' 22 points. Hutchens was perfect with a 9-for-9 performance from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Senior guard Jennifer Crow scored 17 points and dished out seven assists while sharing rebounding honors with Reba Johnson.
Turnovers plagued the Lady Bears throughout the game. They committed 14 in each half while the Cowgirls only tallied 19. The Lady Bears, normally a good free throw shooting team (70%), made only seven of their 15 free throws for 46.7%. Oklahoma State shot 44.1 percent in the first half while holding the Lady Bears to 27.6 percent to take a 38-21 lead into the lockerroom.
The Cowgirls outscored Baylor 37-33 in the second half to move their overall record to 11-6 and 3-2 in the Big 12. The Lady Bears have now lost six straight Big 12 games and fall to 5-11 on the season.
Baylor will have a week to rest up before hosting the Texas Longhorns in the Ferrell Center. The two teams will play on Sat., Jan. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
